Biography

Nobuyuki Tsujii was born in Tokyo, in 1988.

In 1995, at the age of 7, he won first prize for Piano in the Instrumental Music Category at the All Japan Blind Students Music Competition.

In 1998, at the age of 10, he made a strong debut at the Shigeaki Saegusa Special Concert, performing with the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra under conductor Tetsuji Honna.

In 1999, at the age of 11, he won Gold Prize in Level D at the PTNA Piano Competition.

In 2000, at the age of 12, he gave his first solo recital at Suntory Hall (Small Hall), followed by a second solo recital the next year. He also performed at numerous concerts throughout Japan, including the Kobe Music Festival.

In 2002, he performed at Yutaka Sado’s Young People’s Concert. His performance of Mozart and Chopin’s piano concertos that same year with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, under conductor Seikyo Kim, at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall was an enormous success.

In addition to subscription concerts of the Yomiuri Japan Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, his performances have extended overseas. He made his US debut at Carnegie Hall. His international performances include those in Russia (Great Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory), Czech Republic, and Taiwan.

In 2002, he also performed with the Orchestre Des Concerts Lamoureux, under conductor Yutaka Sado.

In October, 2005, he received the Critics’ Award at the 15th International Frederik Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw, Poland.

He has studied under Masako Masuyama, Masahiro Kawakami, Yukari Kawakami, Yukio Yokoyama and Kyoko Tabe.
